SALON de MATCHA N

Salon de Matcha N hosts tea gatherings for everyone interested in the world of Chado,
regardless of their previous experience.

We aim to share the core concept and spirit of the Chaji, while thoughtfully simplifying its more complex traditional protocols.

In the tea room, we serve mainly usucha and offer seasonal kaiseki-style dishes in a casual table setting, together with experiences such as matcha tastings. Each gathering has its own theme and brings a new way to explore tea culture.

What is a chaji - formal tea gathering?

The Chaji is the ultimate expression of the Japanese Tea Ceremony (Chado). It is an intimate "home party" encompassing the full sequence of the art: the laying of charcoal (Sumidemae), a seasonal meal (Kaiseki), thick tea (Koicha), and thin tea (Usucha).

At the Chaji hosted by Kyoko, we express deep gratitude for the once-in-a-lifetime encounter (Ichigo Ichie) between the host and the guests. Our aim is to enjoy the subtle changes of the season and the time, striving for the experience of spiritual oneness that lies beyond the formalities.

While the Chaji is not meant to be daunting, the Tea Ceremony has many specific traditions and etiquette. Participants are encouraged to understand these customs and gradually master them through regular practice and patience.

Salon de Matcha N

meet kyoko & maya

Kyoko is a true tea connoisseur. She’s dedicated her life to mastering the authentic Japanese tea ceremony. You can find her meticulously following delicate movements in the tea room, and she makes time for daily mastery in and out of the tea room.

Maya is a private chef in Montreal who loves to create delicious plant-based meals. She’s passionate about using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, and she believes that mindful eating is key to overall well-being. Maya even completed a 500-hour training program as a yoga therapist, so she can help people adopt a more mindful lifestyle.

How it all began… In 2018, Kyoko ordered her birthday cake from Maya through their mutual friends. That’s how they met! Isn’t that sweet? Growing up in Japan, Maya had no opportunity to attend or observe a tea ceremony. She officially began practicing Japanese tea ceremony in January 2025, inspired by Kyoko. She quickly embraced this beautiful yet profound culture, and they have been sharing it with their friends.
